There is a constant battle between those who believe that art shouldn't be restricted within the confines of national borders, and those who think patriotism demands we only consume national content. While, Indian films release regularly in Pakistan, Indian cinegoers do not get a chance to see Pakistani films. Many believe that there is a ban on Pakistani films in India and push Pakistani official to reciprocate it. In events such as Faiz International Festival and Shaan e Pakistan music press conference, this question keeps coming up.

Talking at the recently held media junket, acclaimed Indian producer Rakesh Sabharwal clarified that there is no ban on Pakistani films and film makers just need to work harder to have their films released across the border.

“Many people believe that there is a ban on Pakistani films and artists within India. While the latter is true to some extent, there is no such ban on films,”

“The Indian film organization that was demanding a ban on Pakistani films does not have much value within the country thus their demands were not met. There have been very few Pakistani film releases across the border yet we have not seen producers trying to promote their films in India," he added.

He also talked about his visits to Pakistan for the Shaan e Pakistan awards.

“I am a man of showbiz and believe that music is a universal language. We can use this connection between the two countries in our favour; for increasing positivity. Music has no boundaries and I have seen that here in Pakistan. Whenever I visit, I receive immense love and respect. I would also like to take out a moment to appreciate the fact that Shaan-e-Pakistan Awards welcomes the participation of singers from various other Asian countries.”

“Pakistan’s cinema industry has been growing due to the release of various Indian films but that has all been down to the efforts of Indian film-makers. We have seen a time when the response to Indian films was extremely low and hardly anyone was willing to watch our films in cinemas. However, we did not give up,” he also added.

One hopes to see more and more quality content. We hope relations between both the countries will change for the better in near future and our films release across the border as well!
